The Mindful Coach Letters

Story-based letters by email from my desk to you - to inspire, inform, and generally be helpful on your journey to be a mindful and present person in the world

Quick Question

Hi ,

I’ll be brief.

You may have heard me ask this before, but it bears repeating:

In a world with unlimited suffering and unlimited beauty, who do you choose to be?

There are many reasons to be deeply concerned or outraged about events in the news.

Too many.

There are good reasons to be activated.

But we cannot live in a state of constant outrage.

I invite you to consider that, at any given moment, millions of amazing moments are happening everywhere.

Somewhere, a couple who never expected it would happen for them is celebrating their newborn child.

Somewhere, someone is hearing the words: “you are cancer free.”

Somewhere, the sun is coming up in an amazing display over a desert in full bloom after a rain shower.

Please do not shy away from the darkness that is happening. We need people with mindful presence, emotional intelligence, and empathy in the mix where it counts.

But also, and this is the key ask: Give beauty and grace equal time in your heart and mind.

And if you slow down a bit and see, actually see what’s right in front of you today, I bet you can find one of those moments in something small.

A mischievous look in someone’s eye.

The happiness of a small dog pulling its too-slow owner along for a walk.

The drift of small cloud carelessly floating acrross an uniminaginably blue sky.

And 1000 more.

As a practice in reslience and presence – give yourself these small moments – so you can also be available for the big ones.

It is time well spent.

Blessings to you,

Stay present,

Brett
